BENEFITS AND USES:

This medication is used to prevent gout, a condition that can cause pain and swelling in the joints.

DIRECTIONS:

Take this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. This medication should be taken with or after food to reduce stomach upset. Take this medication with plenty of water. This medication must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking unless instructed by the doctor.

WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF THIS MEDICINE?

This medication may cause the following side effects: - Diarrhoea - Upset stomach When allopurinol is started for gout prevention, the chances of having gout attacks may be higher initially. Do not stop taking this medication without checking with your doctor. Your doctor may prescribe another medication to be taken together to reduce the risk of getting gout attacks during the initial period of this medication. Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
